Good afternoon, YouthMundees!
IVA in association with YouthMundus is thrilled about our latest Global Youth Ambassador addition - the inspiring and impressive young climate change activist and part of the bigger #FridaysforFuture movement, Julie Schummer, from Belgium.
We are very excited to work together with Julie to ensure that the voices of youth feel empowered to stand up for what they believe in, and that policymakers choose to listen so that future generations have hope of a better and safer tomorrow!
FRIDAYS FOR FUTURE Fridays For Future is a movement that began in August 2018, after 15 years old Greta Thunberg sat in front of the Swedish parliament every school day for three weeks, to protest against the lack of action on the climate crisis. She posted what she was doing on Instagram and Twitter and it soon went viral. Today this is a large international movement of students who have decided not to attend classes and instead take part in demonstrations to demand action to prevent further global warming and climate change.
The hashtags #FridaysForFuture, #YouthForClimate and #ClimateStrike have the past year spread all over the world and many both young people and adults are weekly protesting outside of their parliaments and local city halls.
We, the young, are deeply concerned about our future. […] We are the voiceless future of humanity. We will no longer accept this injustice. […] We finally need to treat the climate crisis as a crisis. It is the biggest threat in human history and we will not accept the world's decision-makers' inaction that threatens our entire civilization. […] Climate change is already happening. People did die, are dying and will die because of it, but we can and will stop this madness. […] United we will rise until we see climate justice. We demand the world's decision-makers take responsibility and solve this crisis. You have failed us in the past. If you continue failing us in the future, we, the young people, will make change happen by ourselves. The youth of this world has started to move and we will not rest again.
